RIVER DROWES – Monday 14th to Sunday 20th
The river ran at fair levels this week with the gauge at the Four Masters Bridge reading 0.54 metres at the beginning of the week and still reading just over 0.5 metres by the end of the week. Air temperatures however, were still very cold for the time of year. This was a good week on the fishery with numerous salmon caught over the week.
On Monday, Sebastion Buchs recorded a 6lb salmon caught on a Rapala lure from the Blackwater and Roland Bonnisch logged a 6lb fish caught on a fly from The Terrace. On Tuesday, Brian Hazelton registered a 9½lb salmon caught on a fly from the Upper Mill Pool. On Wednesday, Patrick O’Malley accounted for a 6lb salmon caught on prawn from the Black Hole. On Thursday, Damien O’Hare recorded a 5lb grilse caught on shrimp from the Sea Pools and we await details of Paul McCausland’s salmon.
On Friday, John O’Neill logged 2 salmon caught on a Cascade fly. These weighed 6½ & 4lb and were caught in Briney’s & The Washstones respectively. Pauric Thornton registered a 9lb salmon caught on a spinner from The Washstones. On Saturday, Colin Kenny accounted for 2 salmon caught on a Cascade fly. These weighed 7 & 4lb and were both caught from the Blackwater. Billy Gilbert recorded a 4lb grilse caught on a Cascade fly from the Black Hole. On Sunday, Terry Hennerbry logged a 4lb grilse caught on a fly from Lennox’s and Vincent Brunton registered a 4½lb grilse caught on prawn from Rooney’s Turn
The forecast for temperatures to rise to the low to mid 20’s which will make angling a little more pleasurable and prospects look good for the coming week
