Good water on the Laune but reports of salmon on the system are few and far between.

2 salmon landed for the week trolling on Lough Leane.
KILLARNEY FLESK
No salmon were reported from the Flesk in the last week.
RIVER LAUNE BEATS 1 AND 2
No salmon were reported from beats 1 or 2 of the Laune recently.

Billy Downes reports that as of Tuesday 2nd June the water is at a lovely 1.5 feet on the gauge at Johnston’s….
There were a few good fish met early in the week one lost on the fly at Johnston’s after 15 minutes described as best fish of a 40 year angling career. The same angler failed to meet any other fish for the week.
There were eight fish reported from the Laune for the week this is a significant improvement but still not great for the effort put in. Yesterday, Monday was the best day as you would expect with nets off and a big angling effort. These fish were caught in Paul Connor’s and Johnston’s. John O’Reilly, a new member of Laune Anglers, released a grilse of 4 lbs at Crowley’s.
Water down river is still perfect for all methods.
Beat 3:
There are a few salmon holding up in pools down river from Beaufort Bridge and a good few sea trout also but they are hard to tempt with flies or worm but they are there. One fish reported for the week.
The water is nice but a bit on the low side for good salmon fly fishing.
Some lovely brown trout showing and even taking salmon flies in the evenings.

Prospects: It can only get better – even allowing for the draft nets being in operation, the return to anglers for this past week was not great.
