John McLaughlin reports:

The Lough Swilly Sea Angling Association held their 49th International Sea Angling Festival last weekend.

Conditions were very good on Saturday and catches in both sections were excellent. A total of 29 tope were landed with as many lost.

Sunday was very windy and fishing was restricted to inside the lough which resulted in less fish but some nice blonde and thornback ray appeared.

A special prize in memory of Noel Kinnear who passed away some time ago was sponsored by Neil Doherty and was won by Adrian Austin.

The overall results were as follows;

Tope Section: 1st Fred Mills, Millisle  2nd: Phil McKenzie, Glasgow. 3rd: Jeremy Shiels, Lough Swilly. Fred won this section for the second year running with 9 tope.

Whitefish Section: 1st Corney Devlin, Blue Wave  2nd Liam O’Connor Culdaff  3rd: Charlie Devlin, Lough Swilly.

Lough Swilly Club member and International Angler, Albert Lennox, fishing his 42nd Angling Festival won the heaviest Tope prize and broke the existing record with a specimen of 45.1 lbs !
