About 9 miles off the West Coast of Mayo, and south-west of Clew Bay, the island, like all the rest, provides some excellent rock fishing for a wide variety of species including pollack, mackerel, dog fish, spurdog, conger, ling, gurnet, plaice, brille, turbot, ray, mullet, dabs, megrim, black sole, lemon sole, sand sole, monkfish, whiting, and cod at certain times of the season.

It is one of the nicest and quietest islands on the west coast and its people welcome anglers to come and sample their excellent fishing and friendship. There are a number of excellent accommodation houses on the island. A twice-daily ferry service takes place from Roonagh Pier.
