Milder weather and higher temperatures over the weekend brought angling guide Eamonn Conway back on to the rivers of the north east in search of wild brown trout. Although Eamonn reports that there were some rain showers it was mainly dry during his visit to the Monaghan Blackwater. On this occasion Eamonn reports that the water was in good order and almost perfectly clear. There were good hatches of olives throughout the day but very few trout were taking the dry fly. Eamonn tried wet flies as well but although the trout were hitting them they were missing them a lot. Eamonn eventually settled on his trusty nymphs which produced excellent sport for him throughout the day. If the weather keeps improving at its current pace, Eamonn reckons that the trout will be coming to the dry fly very shortly.
