Enda Fields from Emy & District Anglers reports on the excellent work carried out by the club recently:
Members of Emy & District anglers Ltd (with the support of a Monaghan County Council/community grant) took 18 youth from the Emyvale area on two fishing workshops/outings.
First outing was held on Emy Lough. All youths were shown the basic ‘fly casting techniques’, the importance of ‘safety’ near water bodies (always wear a life jacket – and safety around electrical wires etc ).

After some practice we held a competition to see who could cast their fly nearest into a hoop. Finally, after some refreshments, club members took all youths out on boats for a spin of the lake. Some fish were caught and all enjoyed the day.

Glenkeen has a fly & bait lake and all youth tried fishing both fly & spinning/worm methods. Everyone had a good time and caught some lovely rainbow trout – but some big fish got away !. Many thanks to all club members who help out.
