Cor van der Kolk and 3 friends caught 244 pike during a recent angling holiday at Belle Isle, Co. Fermanagh.
They found the first couple of days a bit slow, landing only about 15 pike a day, but with the excellent help of pike guide Colin Chartres they got to know the waters.
They caught most of the fish on spoons (bright colours or silver/ gold) and some on little Rapala wobblers, both on the river and on the lake. On the river most of the pike were found near the shores and on the lake they hung out around any ridges on the bottom of the lake (a depth finder is needed). We caught them both spinning and trolling.
The majority of the pike were jut was just 50-60 cm, but gave great sport nevertheless. As Cor put it “We caught some smaller and some bigger”. The biggest they measured was 95 cm.
