Ennell trout
John Brennan of Longford, and Aidan Heffernan of Clane, Co Kildare boated two crackers from Ennell in the afternoon

Wednesday 12th of October was the end of the trout season for another year on Loughs Ennell and Owel.

I fished Ennell with my good pal Marty Smith from Macklesfield near Manchester on Sunday. Marty is over regularly on business and loved his fishing, and is really looking forward to a few days piking this winter here in the Midlands. On Ennell we were after trout, and it was tough going. We both blanked and I have no problem with that, as it’s not all about the catch. We Dined in Mallackeys Island with John Brennan of Longford, and Aidan Heffernan of Clane, Co Kildare and the lads also had a tough morning session on Ennell. It all changed for the lucky Anglers, as they boated two crackers from Ennell in the Afternoon. I photographed the lads in Whitebridge Bay with their prized catch. John and Aidan are seasoned International Irish Anglers, and at times also need a bit of luck.

DUNNE DEAL FROM ENNELL. Christy Dunne from Edenderry is a regular competition Angler on Owel, and Ennell and is one top class angler. Last week he produced a super 5lbs plus fish from Ennell on an Olive imitation fly. Christy picks up our Angling report in the Offally Topic some weeks. My page runs in Offaly, Meath, and Westmeath Topic publications, and some weeks I hit the wrong page, and it does not run. All can be checked on my site www.midlandangling.com including competition dates.
