Wigan lads Bob Crank, Carl Griffiths, Mark Thomas and Paul McCann made a welcome return to Co Monaghan over the last week. The lads had fished a number of venues during their stay including the Brothers lake in Carrickmacross, Lough Sillan in Shercock, Drumlona and Bellatraen and Lough Muckno. Some of the group have been coming to Ireland since 1984 and the they are already looking forward to their return again next year when the angling access works are completed on Lough Muckno.

The best catch catch for the group during the last week saw one of the lads pull together a net of 80lbs on feeder but average nets were circa 40lbs to 50lbs in weight from most venues. Despite the high water levels, all venues produced fish. Information on venues that were fishing well was supplied by none other than their friend, angling guide and well known coarse angler Peadar O’Brien from Carrickmacross. On the groups final day of fishing today Friday 31st August the lads were on Lough Muckno at South Lodge where they had a successful afternoons fishing. All were on float techniques, either pole or waggler and all caught fish. The fishing was described as consistent throughout the afternoon, with lots of small fish being taken on maggot.
