Donegal CC fined E5,500 for ‘gross negligence’

Donegal County Council has been fined €5,500, including costs, for gross negligence in the protection of the river Eske and its fish stocks. Judge Kevin Kilrane heard how a council employee left two valves open after repairs to water treatment works. As a result sludge which should have gone into the Donegal town sewer system was discharged into a tributary of the River Eske at the adjoining town lands of Drumlaght and Drumlonagher.
