On many ocasions when we were talking about the ultra light fishing, I was wonder, where is the limit ? A Couple years ago, while fishing for perch on my favourite river, using perch rod, I hooked a big fish. Pike I think. The battle last for 70 minutes and I had never seen such a monster on the end of my line. The problem was that, in this particular mark where I hooked the fish it was about 10ft deep water . My line was only 6lb braiking strain but this was over the limit and not enough to lift up tired fish from the river bed. That day I lost my catch by slacking the line. I had no chance anyway, but the story lasted in my memory.
Today, when I saw my friend Dawid battling a hard fighting fish on the perch setup, my memories were refreshed.
It took him more than 20 minutes to luckily land this monster. He was using exactly the same perch rod as mine, a couple years ago, loaded with 10lb braid line and 10 lb wire trace.
The fish was in perfect condition and demolished Dawid’s clip-one minute more fight and would be gone. She measured exactly 100 cms, because it was very thick we estimated the weight to be about 17-18 lbs.
18 lbs fish on ultra light gear- sounds great isn’t ? Is this the limit ?
After this , my friend Alex went in caught perch shoal. Not a big ones, but fish on an every cast in slow retrieve technique.
I gave him to try my power worms-they seem to be deadly for the freswater fishing too.
What about me ? It was one of those days….
I saved it being blank by catching jack pike, perch and tiny roach on power isome 🙂 which become my 15th species in LureHeaven comp.
