Colin Folan reports that the last 2 weeks have been very testing for anglers here, as the water levels dropped and the water temperature rose significantly. Highlight of the last two weeks was John Fish from the UK, who caught and released a brown Trout of 10 – 12lbs on a Temple Dog Tube from Lough Inagh. There was no wind or cloud that day, and the battle lasted for half an hour. At time of writing we have rising water, which was badly needed and with September only around the corner, all looks well for a grand finale to the season. The yearly catch for sea trout at the moment is 764. The last time there was more caught was pre – 1988, ie the collapse due to sea lice infestation. The salmon total so far this season is 58, compared to last year’s 68 for the same time frame. We have over a dozen char landed this season too.
