Donal Kennedy, skipper of the ‘Leah’ reported on a recent fishing trip on Killala Bay, on Saturday 22nd September with a party of anglers from Drogheda and Dundalk. Weather conditions were fine with south easterly winds, which were moderate at first but freshened later in the day. On the first drift they hooked numerous large mackerel then fishing the bottom they boated a number of nice flounder along with tub and grey gurnard.
The second drift produced plenty of L.S.D.’s and poor cod but unfortunately for the party, no ray. Travelling further out the bay, drifting in 40 to 50m they landed some nice ling, the best weighing approximately 7 lbs. Pouting were also present in good numbers. Around 30 pollock were caught, the best up to 7lbs and also some nice coalfish.
