Max Couque, skipper of the Leaca Rua, emailed to report on good fishing over the last week. They had good  tope fishing last week, with the good weather a big help, with fish boated up to 35-40lbs. All fish were tagged and released again.

Max and fellow skipper Kevin MacGabhann hosted the 7th edition of the 22.50 fishing competition last week end, with the 2 boats fishing over 2 days.  For the first day, Kevin went fishing pollack and cod and his group recorded 4 nice cod and plenty of pollack, some grey gurnard, pouting and mackerel. Max’s group targeted tope and landed 3 of them, with the best fish just 10.5lbs

The second day, Max went fishing pollack, and tried for ling and cod, while Kevin was trying to get a bull buss bigger than 10.5lbs but no luck. Colleen Daly on Max’s boat had one  ling of 8lbs and 6 different species (dab, pollack, pouting, mackerel, grey gurnard and ling), but no cod. Kevin’s anglers landed a 6.5 lbs bull buss, 4 ling to 4lbs, dogfish, pollack, pouting, poor cod and mackerel.

Liam Daly won the cup with the biggest fish, his 10.5lbs tope. His daughter Colleen won the Ling trophy. Kevin’s group won the cod trophy and the species trophy. Between the 2 boats there were 14 species landed over the 2 days.
