Irish Trout Fly Fishing Association juvenile anglers appeared at the Annual Angling Fair which was held at the National Show Centre in Cloghran, County Dublin on the 12th February 2012. These young anglers were on hand to demonstrate their fly tying and casting skills. Ian Howard from Mallow gave a casting demonstration that would impress any experienced fly caster, whilst Ciaran Reilly of Loughrea and Fergal McKiernan gave fly tying demonstrations. As well as being members of the 2012 Youths International Fly Fishing Team, Ciaran and Fergal are also members of their respective Provincial Fly Tying Teams.
Amongst visitors to the ITFFA youths stand was renowned fly dresser Frankie McPhilips and International Fly Fishing Association President, Michael Callaghan.
This year Ireland will host the 2012 Youths International Fly Fishing Competition. Teams from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales will compete against one another in the International Match which will be held on Lough Owel, just outside Mullingar in County Westmeath on 1st August. This promises to be an extremely competitive event and it is expected that the Irish Youths Team will do extremely well.
The ITFFA are committed to promoting, encouraging and fostering an interest in fly angling amongst young anglers; juveniles interested in participating in the sport should contact their local trout angling association.
