The following report was sourced from the Kilbride Anglers Club website:
The inaugural Paddy Conneff Cup was held today on Lough Owel today, with 12 anglers enjoying a memorable day on one of the country’s finest trout lakes.
Conditions throughout the day were mixed, with periods of bright sunshine and light winds interspersed with spells of cloud cover and a stronger breeze. Despite looking promising at times, fishing proved difficult and no fish were reported by lunchtime.
Following the break, fortunes began to improve for some anglers as fish became more active. Martin Kearney enjoyed the best of the sport, landing three fine trout, including the winning fish of the competition. His best trout measured an impressive 21 inches and weighed approximately 4½ lb, securing him first place and the honour of becoming the inaugural Paddy Conneff Cup champion.
John Doyle was the only other angler to weigh in a fish, with a fine trout measuring 18.5 inches earning him second place. While catches were few, the day was enjoyed by all who attended. The event was a fitting start to what promises to become a popular and keenly contested competition in the club calendar.

Congratulations to Martin on his victory and thanks to all anglers who took part in making the first Paddy Conneff Cup a successful and enjoyable occasion.

Go Fishing…
