Lake O”Flynn & District anglers hosted a memorable Malone Cup on sun 22nd July with (14) Boats 28 anglers competing to win 3 malone cups on offer plus a prize fund of 1200 euro. Anglers travelled from Sligo ,Connamara, Castlebar,Athlone, Kildare, and Donegal to contest with the locals For the Michael Malone perpetual Cup with the added attraction of several of the Irish Ladies team plus a big increase of anglers in the junior category also adding to the occasion.  Angling conditions were dark cloudy skies with a blustery south wind blowing. Most areas of the lake fished well as evidenced by the distribution of the boats on the day and most wet fly patterns worked well in the excellent wave that was on the water with fish visibly taking perch fry. Successful patterns included silver dabblers,gold dabblers clarets, sedges, and daddies. In total (28) Anglers caught 84 Trout with a rod average of 3 fish per angler with some super fish in both weight and quality.

Ladies hit the Jackpot on O’Flynn
Lake O”Flynn & District Angling Association were hosts to the Irish Ladies Fly-fishng Association on sat 21 July this is the second year that the ladies have chosen O”Flynn to hold one of their four Trials to determine who qualifies to fish on the Irish team for the International in 2013. Lady anglers were met with good angling conditions on the day with plenty cloud cover and a fresh breeze to greet them. Once again Lake O”Flynn came up trumps for the ladies with some excellent returns in an event that was run on a catch, measured, and released basis. Most areas of the lake fished well on the day with the most effective fly patterns Green peters, sedges, silver dabblers, clarets, octopus’s, and daddies. On retuning to the shoreline and calculating the score cards Julie Gerry and Jenny Casey proceeded with the presentation of prizes on the day and Jenny Casey treated everybody present to some of her cream sponge cake. Julie Gerry thanked the lake O”Flynn anglers for hosting the event and I.F.I.for their excellent stocking which insured that all anglers had a memorable day.

 Main results were as follows:
 1st – place and Trial winner Dorrie Gibbons Cong, Co Mayo with 18 – Trout.
 2nd – place Ann Kerrin Florenscourt, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh with 14 – Trout.
 3 rd -place  Ann McWilliams  Cork,  11 – Trout.
