There was plenty of action on the Shannon-Erne Waterway as local angler Eamonn Dempsey staged a 24-hour “Fishathlon” to raise fund for the North West Simon Community charity.

It all began on Saturday evening when the still summer evening turned into a nightmare with swarms of flesh nibbling midges targeting Eamonn and his supporters – Noel Dempsey and David Price – throughout the night at Keshcarrigan Marina, County Leitrim.

Thankfully the fish provided lively sport and their success was supposed to be followed by a great fry up at dawn, until they discovered Dave’s pet dog (Wilson)  had scoffed 24 raw sausages!

The things people will do for charity!  They all deserve a medal and hopefully the angling trio will have added plenty of cash to the charity.

North West Simon Community is a not for profit organisation working with those at risk of homelessness in counties Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo. The organisation works in partnership with statutory and voluntary service providers. North West Simon Community is an affiliate of the Simon Communities of Ireland comprising eight Simon Communities throughout the country and the national office in Dublin.
