Mark Carolan of the Drogheda Coarse Angling Club reports that on Sunday last, the 23rd of June, the final battle commenced of the Spring/Summer league of 2013, on Corstown lake Co. Meath. With the draw completed outside Muldoons in Drumconrath, six anglers made there way to the bog side of the lake to take their stands. With first place already impressively sown up by Mark Heffernan, second and third were still up for grabs with only a point separating Mark Carolan and Shane O’Reilly. For the five hours of the match, the rain lashed down in regular showers, the wind blew hard from a North West direction and the temperature dropped, all of which made fishing conditions challenging and put a serious tow on the lake. Despite this, all anglers caught fish, including roach, perch, skimmer’s. Nearly all coarse fishing methods were tried and tested on this our last match with anglers using feeder, slider, pole, six metre whip and four metre whip. All techniques produced fish but most fish came at six to nine metres into fifteen foot of water. Best tactics included ground-baiting a little and often and hemp tactics. At the end of the day the prize giving was held in O’Casey’s Bar in Drogheda where the results were delivered by club chairman Arthur Byrne.

The final positions were, third Shane O’Reilly, second Mark Carolan and first with a maximum tally of points was Mark Heffernan. Top quality prizes where give to the top six anglers. Mark Carolan, on behalf of the committee thanked and congratulated all the members who took part in the league. Club members are already looking forward to next years league.
