Dave Houghton reports on the recent Sheemore Angling Festival where 39 anglers did their best to stop to Tony Kersley winning for 3 years in a row…

Fermanagh’s Tony Kersley clocked up his third win of the season with a 72lb 9oz total over three days in the Sheemore AC Festival in County Leitrim.   This latest success means that Tony has now won the tournament three times in a row.

The former Irish international – who won the Belturbet Festival in August and the Carrick-on-Shannon Festival just last week – employed almost every angling method possible to win the £100 first prize.

His opening match was on Lough Allen at Heron’s Shore were he took second place with 16-6-0 of roach and hybrids on a groundbait feeder casting 35 metres, with a smattering of fish on running line with a waggler.  Day two brought him to the pump house stretch of Lough Scur where Tony concentrated mainly on the pole, fishing at 10 and 12 metres with single caster hookbait for a mixed net of skimmer bream, roach and hybrids.

Tony reckons the toughest venue was Kiltybardan Lake, near Ballinamore.  He was drawn in very shallow water and worked hard with pole tackle, whip, waggler and a crumb feeder, putting together a 25-7-0 net of mixed fish.

Overall top four winners:

1 Tony Kersley, Fermanagh, 72-9-0

2 Francis McGoldrick, Ballyconnell, 59-8-0

3 Larry Parkes, Carrick on Shannon, 51-2-0

4 Mike Fitzpatrick, Boyle, 49-3-0./
