SAVE Bantry Bay (SBB) has written to Minister for the Marine Simon Coveney demanding that he ‘hold true to his word’ and have the sea lice system tested. Until it is proven sea lice are not damaging wild salmon stocks, the organisation said, the current moratorium on the expansion of salmon farming must be continued. SBB, formed to fight Marine Harvest’s plans to build a salmon fish farm at Shot Head in Bantry Bay, said that the pro-salmon farming lobby and government ‘continue to argue sea lice have little impact on wild salmon populations’ but scientific surveys say otherwise.
