A man drowned off the Clare coast was just 100m away from a lifebuoy when he was swept into sea while fishing with a friend.
It’s unclear if the Lithuanian man got to the buoy before disappearing from sight off Blackhead lighthouse in North Clare.
His companion drove some 80m away to Tuam, in Co Galway but was unable to tell gardai where they had been fishing and could only indicate they were near a lighthouse…..
