Marsh Crescent Drogheda recently asked angling coach Brendan O’Reilly of Newgrange Angling Initiative to host a pike fishing competition in aid of their youth club. Brendan made some calls and posted invites onto a number of websites. It was always going to be difficult to get a lot of anglers together with the hot weather but 19 anglers turned up to fish from 6 clubs and caught 22 fish for their days fishing. All the fish went back immediately safely to the water as no fish were put into keep nets owing to the hot conditions. Coaches from Marsh Crescent acted as stewards on the day. Everyone enjoyed a BBQ after the event and prizes included trophies from Wee County Trophies (Ardee) and Voucher’s from Boyne Angling Centre (Drogheda). results of the competition were
1st Sean Markey. 2nd Johnny Clarke. 3rd Eddie McGuirk.
The heaviest fish of the event was caught by Eddie McGuirk.
