Angling Coach Brendan O’Reilly reports that the final of Newgrange Angling Initiative league took place a few weeks ago in the Cavan area. 42 fish to 5lbs 09oz were caught with Stephen Ward winning the event on the day with the heaviest fish of 5lbs 09oz.

Catching fish from the first cast Darron Kavanagh set the pace with 3 fish on the bank before anybody else had caught. Luke Everard only needing to catch a fish to win the leg was feeling the heat with all bar 2 without fish. Glen Finnegan had fish and needed Luke to blank in order to win. In the end Luke did get the fish he required and became the first Newgrange Active Angler of the year.

Well done Luke and all the lads over the 6 competitions. The overall standing are as follows

  • 1st Luke Everard,
  • 2nd Glen Finnegan
  • 3rd Darron Kavanagh.

Heaviest fish was taken by John Tracey in league overall.
