Well known Enniskillen angler John Parkinson caught the first fish of February from the river yesterday afternoon. The 7lbs fish was caught on spinner at the Old Sea Pool just after lunch time. The water level has dropped a little to just above 0.8 metres on the gauge. The morning had started off wet with wintery showers but by mid morning sunshine and blue skies made a rare but welcome return.

The weather for the north west looks set to remain cold but drier and calmer than it has been in recent weeks. There are spring tides over the weekend which will hopefully bring in some fresh fish and see an improvement to what has been a lacklustre start to the 2013 fishing season.
