Nigel Rush reports from Kylemore Abbey Fishery:

Week ending Saturday 29th June saw the fishery produce seven salmon and nine sea trout for a mere twelve rod days.
The beginning of the week left us with the residue of a small spate which had encouraged fish into the river. Neil Spellacy set the ball rolling with two fish of eight and three pounds off the Middle River only to continue his success with a further two fish from the Derryinver Bridge Pool fishing the Collie Dog. Neil connected and played a fish of approx 15lb in the same pool which eventually parted contact with him.

Denis McMurray and Ciarán Brady landed their first fish of the season with number seven falling to my rod at three pound.

At the time of writing (Sunday morning) it is raining heavily and forecast is for more. Plenty of fish spotted this morning but no takers yet. Plenty of space for the rest of the week.

At last the sea trout have started to appear in some numbers and reasonably clear of lice. The first batch of arrivals were in poor condition possibly through not leaving the confines of the estuary and as a consequence got heavily infested with ‘organic’ lice from the bowels of the nearby salmon farm/cesspit.
