Billy Downes of the Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers Association reports that there was some very good fishing on the river last week…

A Tralee angler had a salmon of 14 lbs and two grilse of 5lbs at the Rock Pool on Monday.  Another Tralee Angler on Tuesday, again at the Rock pool, had a good salmon and a grilse.  On Tuesday evening last Paddy Ginnifer fished Johnston’s, at the pulpit and caught two of the best fish that will be caught on any fishery this year, 15 lbs and 16 lbs.

Thomas Ward had a fish of 8lbs at Coffey’s Flat.  There continues to be good sea trout caught in the evenings on the fly and spinning.  Garry Fernane, Tralee had a nice fish of about 2 lbs on Sunday and lost a few good ones also.

Prospects are good with grilse in numbers running the river and there is also a serious chance of meeting a fish well into double figures so be prepared. Sea trout and brown trout are also on the menu.
