Paul Hanely had another salmon off the Lee last week, but very little has happened at the river since…

The water at Inniscarra Salmon Fishery was high and  moving fast so Paul used a heavy 25gram size four blade Flying C to get down to the fish. The temperature dropped very fast in the evening and it became quite cold so Paul expected the fishing to be very hard. He fished down the entire beat taking weed from the bottom searching out the salmon lies to see if there was anyone at home. Having come to the last section of Beat 1 Paul hooked into a small salmon of about 7lbs and quickly played out the fish.  Though the fish was extremely fresh Paul reckoned that the heavy, fast water had tired out the fish even before he had hooked it.

Paul also has some great advice for anyone who gets hung up on the bottom while spinning for salmon. A twist of bramble sent down the line can free a snapped lure in no time and save the angler a fortune in the process… You can watch the whole process at – http://youtu.be/WsBzHxpxJI8
