Lindsey Clarke reports from the RIVER DROWES – Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th June 2013
The weather was certainly not conducive to salmon angling this week and most days brought bright sunshine and very warm air (mostly over 20°C). The river level dropped over the week from 0.55 metres on Monday to read 0.49 metres by Sunday. The fishery was understandably quiet with few rods fishing in the bright sunshine.
There was however a number of grilse caught from Friday onwards with most of these caught in bright sunlight! On Friday, Jason Caskey recorded a 4lb grilse caught in the Sea Pools on prawn. On Saturday, John Waters logged 2 grilse weighing 4½ & 6lb caught in the Mill Pool on prawn. Timothy Dalton & Thomas Colgan accounted for 5 grilse caught between them with three of these returned. The fish were all caught below the Four Masters Bridge on worm and spinner, also in sweltering conditions the bright sunshine!
