Lindsey Clarke reports from LOUGH MELVIN – Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th June 2013

Conditions in the main were decidedly bad for game angling on the lough this week. Sweltering days and bright sunshine prevailed and the trout remained with their heads down (and probably wearing little fishy sunglasses!). There was the odd mayfly in evidence and these should start to hatch in better numbers over the coming week. There was only a light angling effort overall.

Despite the poor conditions, there were 3 salmon recorded. On Tuesday, Gerry Higgins, Derrygonnelly recorded a 4lb grilse. On Saturday, Niall Sweeney logged a 3½lb grilse caught and the following day, Sunday, he accounted for another grilse weighing 4½lb. All these were caught trolling around the Garrison Shore.
