Both rivers where lower than normal for opening day due to the previous two weeks off frost.  While water temperatures where cold fish where still active if anglers where prepared to scratch the bottom with heavy nymphs.

Middday has seen a small fluttering of large dark olives which brought a few fish up from the depths and could be taken on dry fly.  The fish have all been in quite good nick for the time of year with the odd lean trout also about.  I guided Gerry Andrews from Newry on the Cusher on Saturday 2nd March and it turned out to be quite an eventful day with Gerry landing quite a few fish, his best was his first ever on dryfly and touched the tape at sixteen inches, a great fish for so early in the season.

With rain forecast at present a rise in water levels and temperature prospects will be good going forward on the Bann especially.  Anybody interested in a guided days trouting on this system can contact me through the link below.
