No surprise that the Lagan produced plenty of fish in the opening days, originally this river used to open on the 1st February when plump trout could be taken from opening day on black and silver and other wetflies.  Most fish succumbed to nymphing tactics although some fish where poking their snouts above the surface for the emerging olives that started to hatch in early afternoon.

All the regulars on the Dromore section river reported fish over the opening weekend, Mark Sloan having a great opening day with 15 fish over the 25cm mark and a number off smaller fish also.  Neil Cardwell, Andrew Sloan and 13 year old Thomas Russell all recorded plenty of well mended trout on Sunday 3rd March.  Dromore Anglers first competition is Saturday 9th March and will be interesting to see if any of the bigger trout will be taken.  Lower down the river, Blackskull and Donaghcloney beats are reported to be fishing while Milltown and Magheralin have been described as slow.  If interested in guided fishing on the Lagan please contact me through my website below.
