Yippee – summer seems to have made an appearance at long last. The last week has seen higher temperatures and increased insect activity as a result.
Sedge are in abundance on any milder evenings and a small brown imitation (size 14 / 16) is certainly worth considering in the evenings.
Spider patterns fished in the surface film are also fishing well – especially flies such as Waterhen Bloa and Partridge and Orange.
During any quieter periods nymphs such as Copper Johns, PTN’s and Hares Ears are worth fishing through any of the faster runs or riffles.
The River is running clear at present so a fair degree of stealth is required when approaching pools and fishing. Some of the pools require an almost Ninja like approach and casts really have to be kept to a minimum.
Floating lines of 4 or 5 weight are ideal – anything heavier can tend to spook the beautifully marked resident brownies. Fishing is strictly by fly only and all fish caught must be returned.
