The Muckno Autumn Festival will be Ireland’s richest angling event this year. It is expected to be a sell-out with 200 match fishermen enjoying the spoils of £40,000 in returned entry fees plus €10,000 cash sponsorship!
The interest is huge and anglers throughout Europe are expected to enjoy some of the most consistent fishing for bream, roach and hybrids from 220 drive-to pegs on the shoreline of the vast Monaghan lake. The match dates are September 30-4 October.
It is already causing a stir and the introduction of a five-man team has leading anglers scurrying about to secure the best possible partners. Bob Nudd had a big smile: “Personally I’m delighted because now there’s seven consecutive weeks of serious Irish match fishing that begins in August and ending with five-days on Lough Muckno. What a way to complete the 2013 festival season! Any serious matchman who enjoys traditional angling will tell you that Ireland is the place to be with continuous events from May until late autumn”.
Bob is well aware that the £40,000 will be returned as cash to individual anglers and there is €4000 for the top team. There are definetly four obvious names already on the team sheet. They are Kevin Ashurst, Garry Whalley, Barry Smith and Bob Nudd. They have fished Lough Muckno together for many years and now the search is on to secure another handy rod to create a solid unit. And that could be a “fishing machine” everyone will have to beat.
The €10,000 sponsorship is terrific and comes from Monaghan County Council. It is part of this years “Gathering” that is to encourage more people to Discover Ireland for the first time and to promote the return of visitors who have been missing from the scene in recent years.
There are three more brand new festivals on Lough Muckno in 2013
Easter One – three days – March 30-31-1 April
Easter Two – Four days – April 2-5
Muckno Mania – Five days – July 1-5
