Lindsey Clarke reports from the RIVER DROWES – Monday  10th  to Sunday 16th February 2014.

There was no let up to the precipitation this week and the Drowes remained very high all week. At present the reading on the gauge is over 10 (1.0m)! This was not conducive to angling and conditions were very wintery at times with good snowfalls on Friday. The weekend brought two drier days however and despite very high water there were 3 salmon caught at the weekend. On Saturday, Joe Broderick caught and released a 10lb salmon that took a Rapala in the Crooked Hole and Brian McEvoy caught and released a 9lb salmon on a spinner from the Mill Pool and also lost hooked and lost another salmon later in the day. On Sunday, Marty O’Hara recorded an 11lb salmon caught on a spinner from the Mill Pool. The forecast for the coming week is for somewhat drier weather with less rainfall and the Drowes should drop but this will be a slow fall.
