Mirror-like lake surfaces look good but can make the fishing very difficult. Experienced Irish festival regular, Rod Scott, drawn end peg 1 at Church Shore on Garadice Lake knew that a positive feeder-only attack would give the best chance of a weight.
Casting past 50m, the Northwich tackle dealer kept hybrids coming steadily all day before a burst of better fish in the last half an hour sealed the lake win with 20.180kgs.
Rod and partner Michael Buchwalder have moved into 5th place going into the last day. Tomorrow one of them will be at Killadeas, where the fishing has got stronger as the week has gone on.
While Rod Scott was storming to the lake win, over on the other end peg, 14, David Herron was quietly plugging away on the feeder as well. His 17.280kgs contained a lot of small fish, but he also got amongst the better hybrids.
The Co. Tyrone rod used double red maggot on the hook and got through 2 pints of casters and 3/4kg of chopped worm. A recent convert to window feeders, he used a 20g model to pick off his fish.
Daiwa Cup front-runner Adam Wakelin drew Lough Scur peg 13, a peg that had not produced massive weights all week. He fished a sensible match for small roach, perch and hybrids on the pole to keep his nose in front with 14kgs.
