Fermoy Autumn Festival 2014 6th, 8th and 10th October, winner of this festival for the 5th time Tommy Lawton, Fermoy with 46lb 5ozs. 2nd was Neil Richards 33lb 5ozs and 3rd Paul Stansfield 32lb 10ozs, 4th Mick Stanley 31lb 9ozs.

The week started very good but conditions changed very fast, the river was below summer level and on Monday first day of the festival the river was rising after some rain on Sunday night and rose about 14 inches. Tommy had 41lb 12oz on day 1 so it looked like we were going to have a great festival. Tuesday the off day and that night we had a hard ground frost, on Wednesday to fishing got difficult with the winning weight coming from Neil Richards, Swindon with 15lb 12ozs. More rain on Wednesday so more cold water going in and more frost at night did not help for Fridays match with Barry Grubb, Reading winning on Friday with 7lb.

After a great start to the week it was disappointing for the Wednesday and Friday’s fishing the way it turned out with a combination of a river well below summer level, cold water going in and to get the first ground frosts of the autumn really stopped the fish feeding.
