THE OUNAVARRA River which flows through Courtown Woods has been closed for salmon and sea trout fishing for the coming year.
The bye-law came into effect on January 1, and the Ounavarra was the only river in the country, which was previously open, to be closed on the order of Fergus O’Dowd, the Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.
The regulations are being implemented to help ensure sustainable fish stocks…….
