Ian Powell reports that salmon are being caught in spite of very challenging conditions on the Munster Blackwater…
We have had 12 fish to 13lb. in the last 3 days for just 35 rod days, which is remarkable considering the challenging low water conditions.

Salmon
A fine 10lb. fresh salmon released by Rob Green (UK) on the lower river.  This fish wins our ‘Catch of the Week’

The weather is set to continue dry and sunny for the coming days and as of Sunday evening the river height is down to 0.09m and steady at Ballyduff. There is good visibility at about 6 feet throughout and water temperature is  13.0ºC .
The odd fresh fish is moving on the lower river and the tidal reaches below Lismore are reported to be full of fish but they are not taking there either. Prawn is the most productive method at the moment.

Prospects:

It is encouraging to see fish starting to be taken on the prawn.
There are high tides of 4.1m peaking mid-week which may encourage fish to move and take.
