Galway Buccaneers SAC reports:
Congratulations to Pete Davis on Winning leg 4 of our boat master angler series sponsored by Galway Bay Fishing. It was Pete’s first competitive outing in about 4 years and he displayed no signs of rustiness as he quickly set about building a lead with multiple species and numbers of fish coming to the boat. In fact all around the boat there was an array of different species being boated with a very busy days fishing had by everyone.
Conor Graham who had won the last two outings kept within touching distance of Pete but couldn’t reign him in with Pete leading from wire to wire. Both Pete Davis and Conor Graham ended up with 10 species each and between them they had well over 100 fish to the boat with Pete Davis boating 69 fish while Conor Graham boated 45, so well done to both fantastic fishing. Noel Griffith who was on his first boat outing of the year fished very well to take 3rd spot finishing with an impressive 9 species.
Weather wise it was a dry day with a light WSW wind and a gentle enough swell. Conditions dictated fishing at anchor would be the chosen method to begin with to avoid tangles which would otherwise have ensued with a fast drift.
Elsewhere around the boat there were some cracking fish coming in, Conor Mountaine landed the first Bullhuss of the day by the end of which everyone had boated a Bullhuss including a cracking double figure for David Spokes weighing 12.5lbs. Conor Graham had a smashing Cod and a nice Ling. There were some lovely Pollack being boated by Vinny Corrigan, Marcin Tomaszek and Duncan Brown who also had a nice Bullhuss. While Sean Gerrity had a blitz of Dogfish at one stage which kept him in the race he also had a good mix of species in the end.
We finished with 15 Species including: Cuckoo Wrasse, Ballan Wrasse, Cod, Ling, Coalfish, Pollack, Pouting, Poor Cod, Whiting, Dogfish, Bullhuss, Haddock, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel and Launce
Thanks as always to our skipper Kevin MacGabhann for a great days fishing and for looking after us with refreshments and ensuring everyone was taken care of. Full result to follow
