Galway Buccaneers SAC reports:

Congratulations to Conor Mountaine on winning leg 4 of our shore master angler series, its Conor’s 3 win in a row in what was a high scoring match. The weather on Sunday started off with a fresh SW wind turning WSW in the late afternoon, this surprisingly only had a gentle surf lapping the beach which was free of weed. For the first couple of hours the rain was torrential, and driving out through Connemara on route to the venue you couldn’t see any of the mountains. The rain however didn’t deter the fish in anyway who were feeding hard, a good sign the beach is recovering after the storms earlier in the year. Thankfully halfway through the match the rain cleared and we ended up with blue skies and sunshine.

First casts produced fish along the beach, Conor Mountaine peg 8 had a Brill to start off while Fergus Collins peg 7 had a Turbot. Elsewhere there were Flounder and Turbot coming in for John Peel peg 6 , Rob King peg 3 and Denis Healy peg 5. Norbert Zimmerer peg 4 and Duncan Brown peg 1 were finding the going tough, it was great to see Duncan back on the beach after a lengthy enforced break.

Fishing was busy with the top 3 all in double figures. Fergus Collins finished in 3rd place with 11 fish giving him a points tally of 213 he was just pipped to second place by 1 point by Denis Healy who had 10 fish giving him a total of 214 with several of his fish marking in the 20’s. Conor Mountaine who pulled a treble shot out last cast to consolidate his lead finished with 17 fish and a points total of 331.  Thanks to all who braved the initial heavy rains and came out to fish see you all at the next one. Full result to follow ~ The Committee
