The Loughs Conn & Cullin Anglers Association annual Whit week end 2 day competition saw 78 anglers competing for first place. Over the course of the weekend 63 trout over the 13 ” limit were caught with an average weight of 0.581 kg.

The results were as follows:

  • 1st , Eddie Blance, laois, 2 trout, 1.87 kg
  • 2nd , John Binley, Foxford, 3 trout, 1.76 kg
  • 3 rd, Junior Mc Gahon, Castlebar, 3 trout, 1.65 kg

Elsewhere on the lake…

Mark and Martin Wilson from Whiteabbey Co. Antrim fishing out of Ian Wises at Cloonamoyne Fishery for their 23rd Mayfly on Conn had 28 trout for four days fishing with trout up to 2lbs and all trout returned to the lake bar one injured fish. Most fish were caught on dry Lawrence Finney type, yellow and grey Wulff patterns.

Mark lost two big trout at Ned’s on the spent on Friday evening. They saw fish on most shallows and commented on the great stock of various year groups seen over the lake with most shallows producing fish.

Two friends fishing with them Gary Mc Fadden, Lisburn and Alistair Linton, Ballymena had 7 trout for 1 and a half days fishing, including 2 fish of 2lbs, all caught on the Green Peter wet and on the spent Gnat.
