Pat Cleere reports on his weekend’s forays to the Liffey where there change in weather saw the beginnings of a hatch of fly…
Early days on the River Liffey, fly hatches sparse, as I saw only 2 large dark olives on the river around Clane on Sunday 9th March. There was a small sprinkling of Black Midges around noon with the odd fish rising to them. The best chance of catching a fish is on a bead head nymph or streamers.
With the release of water from Golden Falls reduced now, there will be a window of opportunity to fish some part of the day.
Check liffeyreleases.com for time of water releases.
There is a substantial increase in temperatures this week, fly life should improve and we should see the first big hatches of large dark olives any day soon.
