A couple of notable catches have come to light recently in the Virginia area, specifically from Lough Ramor. Following on the great catch of a 12lb + trout by one of the youths fishing with Des Chew and the Dublin Angling Initiative, a couple of pike anglers have had similar experiences recently. The most notable catch was a superb brown trout weighing between 17lbs and 19lbs which was caught on the Munterconnaught side of the lake. The fish was taken by a pike angler and was caught on a fish bait, either a dead roach or a mackerel. The fish was released back to Lough Ramor. Then yesterday morning another pike angler struck into a fish on a dead roach bait and landed a superb brownie just over 8lbs. Ramor produces some great surprises and is worth a visit whether you are a coarse, pike or trout angler. As the weather improves and the evenings get longer and milder there is a chance of some nice buzzer fishing around the lake.
