40 anglers competed in the first Ulster Coarse Fishing Federation teams of 8 event on the Newry Canal yesterday Sunday Nov 16th.
The match was fished by five teams in mild fine conditions on the canal coloured by the recent heavy rain.
Lurgan Coarse Angling Club came out tops with 17pts. Runners up were Erne Anglers AC with 21pts just beating East Belfast AC 21pts on weight 19kgs to 15kgs.
The NCFFI Junior International U23 came in fourth with 23pts and the U18’s in fifth place with 37pts.
Overall individual winner was Johnny McKinley, Lurgan AC and recent recruit to the NCFFI Feeder Development squad. Johnny caught over 100 fish on the pole for 5.460Kgs on the basin section peg 4.
Runner up was Gordon Williams, Erne Anglers AC with 5.070Kgs also on the pole, his catch included a 2.450Kgs bream late in the match.
In third place, fishing on the 30peg main match length was Paul Eyers, Erne Anglers AC with 3.990 Kgs of pole caught fish at 13m, On the same strecth, peg 40 was Phillip Jackson, Lurgan AC coming in with 3.890kgs.
Well done to everyone it was a very enjoyable day and we hope to expand on this event for the future with additional teams.
