Galway Buccaneers SAC reports:
Congratulations to Conor Graham on winning leg two of our boat master angler series sponsored by Galway Bay Fishing It was a beautiful day to be out on the water on Sunday and we were treated to a magnificent display from a pod of Minke whales as we made are way out to the first mark of the day. On arrival at the first mark, where the first few drops saw several species boated, we were treated to another wonderful display this time from a large Basking Shark who was slowly swimming close by feeding.
We enjoyed a good variety of fishing anchoring and drifting over mixed ground, rocky ground and sand. This produced 11 different species on the day which were: Cuckoo Wrasse, Cod, Grey Gurnard, Coalfish, Pollack, Ling, Poor Cod, Pouting, Bullhuss, Dogfish and Mackerel.
Conor Graham fished very well on the day and was a deserving winner landing some nice fish on the way including a nice Ling and Bullhuss while also filling his quota on Coalfish and was just one short from doing likewise with Pollack. Steve Turner had to settle for 2nd spot having a nice mix of species which kept him in the race. Conor Mountaine took 3rd place landing a couple of nice Ling in doing so. Elsewhere around the boat some cracking Pollack was landed by Duncan Brown, Marcin Tomaszek did well on Coalfish, Sean Gerrity landed a nice Cod with John Peel and David Spokes doing well with Pollack, Denis Healy meanwhile hit a purple patch with Poor Cod plucking one out every drop for a period.
All in it was a good days fishing thanks as always to our Skipper Kevin MacGabhann for looking after us and keeping us on the fish.
The Committee,
Galway Buccaneers SAC
