Ian Powell of Blackwater Lodge reports that there were some quite heavy showers on Monday in the upper catchment of the Munster Blackwater resulting in a further rise of the water level. As of Tuesday the fresh water had seen 46 salmon caught for the last 7 days, including their best of the season with a 17lb caught on 18/09. A 14lb salmon was caught on fly on the 20/09. Just two fish caught on 22/09 – but they were fresh. The total catch for September so far at Blackwater Lodge is 73, making it 441 for the season to date.
Ian is upbeat about prospects for the week telling us that after this last rather dirty rise the river should fine off from now until the end of the season next Wednesday as the weather should be dry. There is plenty of water to bring in the run of larger autumn fish so the prospects of sport into the weekend should be good.

Paul Whelan at the Fortwilliam Fishery reports 9 fish caught towards the end of last week and amongst them were some really super fish, including a a couple of a 14lber, a great fish of 18lb and an even better salmon of 21lb.
