Carrickmacross Coarse Angling and Junior Development Club kicked off their annual fishing summer camp today at the Brothers Lake in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan. This showcase event which has gone from strength to strength every year is not surprisingly fully subscribed again this year.

Today 22 young anglers turned up on a dreary Monday morning to learn all about coarse angling from coaches and members of the club. The mornings session ran from 9.30am to 12.30pm and the 22 attendees were shown the basics about the different coarse fishing techniques and then it was down to the water to put all this learning into practice. Lots of fish were caught during the session, all under the watchful eye of their coaches. Roach and tench were the man species taken with lots of small tench showing up much to the delight of coaches and participants.

The Carrickmacross Coarse Angling and Junior Development Club summer camp is running from the 6th of July until 9th July with both novice anglers and improvers being catered for. The clubs youth development programme has already produced some top class junior anglers who have made their mark on a very competitive match scene.

In addition to the coaching on coarse fishing techniques, the club will also be introducing a number of new strands to the event, introducing some anglers to the art of fly fishing while others will be having a go at developing their pike angling skills. One thing is certain a good time will be had by all at this great event!

Tom Cogan, Child Protection Officer with the club thanked all of the participants for coming along to support the event and congratulated them all on catching some very nice fish this morning. In addition, Tom thanked the club members and coaches for their support and assistance in organizing and running the four day event. He said, “the club members volunteer a huge amount of time and effort to ensure the success of this event and we are extremely grateful for this”.  Finally, Tom thanked the clubs sponsors whose support was vital to the running of this annual event. He thanked Colm Lynch from Tackle Stop in Navan, John Woods Tackle, Ardee, Carrickmacross Town Council and Inland Fisheries Ireland.
