The Madcap’s, Midlands Coarse & Pike Anglers, report from their latest match on the Shannon…
28/09: “A brilliant day” not just for Sean Tallon who win’s our first open with 7kgs on his first time fishing a match on the Shannon but for the club, angling in Athlone and everyone who took part.
25 anglers fished Ireland’s greatest water the mighty River Shannon yesterday from sections on the Meadows, Marine View, Back of the Gentex and the docks, for catches totalling over 50kg. A €10 an entry brings everyone out on the bank – even the Jedward twins – to enjoy some affordable, enjoyable and competitive fishing with some prize money thrown in.

The MADCAPS are working with Inland Fisheries Ireland and Athlone Town Counciland with their support aim to enhance access to the river and get angling in Athlone back on everyone’s agenda!

MADCAPS, Midlands Coarse & Pike Anglers are steadily growing, have some coached members to take juniors forward and are delighted to be working with other clubs and organisations in the area towards the development of angling venues.
We run a pike league in the winter and coarse for the summer. Our membership is just €10 and we charge no more for our open competitions keeping it affordable for all. Key for us is that we keep fishing fun!
