The NCFFI reports that a number of English anglers make the journey each year to support this two day festival run by Prosperous Angling Club in memory of the late Ned O’Farrell. There were less locals this year with many off to pick up a big prize on the Barrow, there were just 18 fishing. Rathangan was the venue choice on the Grand Canal providing easy access to all pegs.

The water was coloured with a good tow from left to right making for perfect conditions on day one and some good weights with skimmers and bream appearing. Alas, the colour dropped out on day two and the flow ceased and the top weight was just 12lb.

Never the less it was enjoyable fishing albeit a little wet and regular Martin Lenihan from Warrington, UK was delighted with his winning weight of 32lbs 11oz and his winnings of over €200. Royal Enfield CAC’s Aidan Gill came second with 29lbs 13oz with Sid Baldock from Loughborough, UK in third place with 24lbs 10oz. Local angler Sean Ward from Prosperous AC took the final payout with his 20lbs 8oz fo 4th position.
